Participant observations include: · The Arts; one could tell right away that the Arts were important to the school. · The central skylight slot linked all floors, providing good connectivity among the academic teams. · The art hanging in the skylight space represents “multiple intelligences” reinforcing the school’s beliefs. · There is no place in the school big enough for the whole student body. · There are sinks in the classrooms. This is a good idea. · Technology didn't seem like it was a part of the building. Computers were on carts and there were lots of cords. · The flexible classroom at the end of each classroom “wing” did not appear to be functioning well. However, we only saw one of the 8 wings, the others might have included a better example of how these spaces are used. · Main entries at the front and aback of the school bring people to the same spot. This is good for control and access to the central administration office. · Components of the original building, like stone tiles, have been saved and located in the new building - good references to the past. · Good use of color, deep purple, yellow and green, and not too bright. · Banks of student lockers are located near the entries to each classroom wing. While the Principal liked this arrangement, she noted that the students did not because they are too tight and crowded.
