Participant observations include:

· Very small and compact.  High ceilings help small spaces feel bigger.

· The raw concrete floor was awful.  It made everything seem dirty.

· The building felt very urban and industrial, like a loft or a train.

· The words on the walls expressed their ideals and reinforced their mission.

· There seemed to be strong follow-through from educational goals through to the building design.

· Use of color and “murals” activates the environment and engages the students.

· Good furniture selections in general.

· Students were very engaged, respectful and friendly.

· CPS uniforms limit student self-expression.
