Participant observations include: · Finishes were wonderful; high quality, durable and holding up well to wear and use. The general flooring was particularly well liked. · Roof garden was great - integrated into learning activities, responsive to seasonal plants, protected from general public. · Technology was well integrated and built into the design · Great spaces · Lots of light and glass, feels welcoming and airy. · Windows linked floors and spaces, like the variation in window heights for unexpected views and linkages between spaces and to the outside. · The tower beacon/sign seems good for community announcements, but also seems like wasted money, since it’s so large and serves no other function. · Furniture selection is good, seems ergonomic and flexible. · Like the “wall paper” marker surface. Why use marker boards, when this allows much better flexibility? · Art and murals in the hallways is beautiful and educational. · The multi-function classroom (roof garden level) includes a movable partition system allowing it to transform into a variety of room sizes and configurations. · The gymnasium floor is damaged by the retractable seating mechanism - it may not be such a good functional combination. · There is a good combination of rooms that are flexible (to be used for a variety of activities) and rooms that are designed specifically for a single function (i.e. the recording & mixing studios). · The main entry and reception area are welcoming while also providing good control of access into the building. · There is generally a good use of daylight without excessive heat gain.
