Tour: Gary Comer Youth Center

Four area schools were toured by nearly 35 representatives of the school planning committee, including students, teachers, administrators and community members.  This page includes data on one of the schools we toured and links to further information.

 

        

         School Information:

· Designed to support the South Shore Drill Team and the activities of neighboring Paul Revere School

· Educational and recreational spaces that wrap around the Drill Team’s performance and practice spaces, and technology resource rooms.

· The LED tower atop the Center's 80-foot tower makes it a neighborhood monument.

· Numerous skylights puncture the 8,400-square-foot innovative rooftop garden, illuminating the gymnasium/theater space below.

· The project features “programmatic sustainability,” which is most strongly expressed in the gymnasium/theater.  With the push of a button, the practice gymnasium converts into a 600-seat theater with tiered seating, stage, and lighting.
