Attea Middle School Virtual Tour |

|
Attea Middle School is an example of a good quality middle school facility. Located in Glenview, this school was toured by several members of our design leadership committee, who offered comments and insights on what they saw.
School Information: · Address: 2500 Chestnut Ave. Glenview, IL 60026 · Website: http://at.glenview34.org/ · 900 students, Grades 6-8 · New school built in the heart of “The Glen,” Glenview’s redeveloped Naval Air Station · Designed for maximum shared-use of the facility by the community of Glenview. · Features zoned academic neighborhoods, advanced technology resources, fine arts wing, state-of-the-art learning center and fieldhouse · Three-story design minimizes building footprint, reduces travel time within the school, and reinforces the separation of public and academic zones · Architect: RuckPate Architecture
Observations: · The building looks important, a good community landmark, pride, respect for learning, etc. · Looks & feels “expensive”, can we afford a building like that? · The commons area is quite large, seems a waste of space. · The central space is beautiful, open, welcoming. · There are separate entries for students and others (parents, visitors, etc.), however, the entries appear identical from the outside. · Both the P.E and the Fine arts spaces are located in separate “wings” which can be easily separated from the team areas for after school access/use. · The science labs are long and narrow, not a desirable proportion for teaching science. · The library/media center is located on the 2nd floor. It is unclear if this space is open for community use after hours. · The team pods (“academic neighborhoods”) include an “open” area for use by the whole team. This would be a good idea for Lincoln. · There are 6 teams, 2 per grade, but there are 4 team pods. It is unclear how the pods support 6 teams, (how 6 teams fit into 4 pods).
